Bushcraft for Families

A full day of family bushcraft for adults and their kids, aged 8 to 17.

A day in the forest with ex-firefighter and bushcraft / primitive skills instructor, Gazza Butcher.

I’m back in the UK after seven years in the wilds of New Zealand and the Kalahari Desert. Join me to learn how to hack it, with confidence, in the wild places.

This is an adventure specifically designed for parents and their kids to share.

A chance first to learn and then to test your survival skills. There will be group and solo activities, a rare family opportunity to show yourselves, and each other, just exactly what you are capable of. Add to that a little healthy competition, and an emergency rescue scenario to finish, this promises to be a great day of exploration and fun.

Here’s just some examples of what your day has in store:

  • Learn to light fires in the rain.

  • How to use a knife and saw safely.

  • How to track animals and humans.

  • How to tie reliable knots.

  • Put up a tarp shelter and stay warm and dry.

  • How to assess and fix an emergency, fast.

  • How to carry an injured friend out of the woods.

  • How to disinfect water and know it is safe to drink.

Expect a practical day, full of hand-picked techniques, tailored to your needs and abilities but pushing your edge in just the right way for maximum enjoyment.

Come and learn the real deal. Become even more awesome, dependable, and resilient than you already are!!

Young people (8 to 17) must be accompanied by an adult parent or guardian.

We will be in the woods all day, from 10am to 4pm. Bring your favourite packed lunch (full details of what else to bring are provided at booking).

Cost for the day £120 for one adult and one teen, extra teens from your family can be added at £50 each. (with 10% discount for Wilderness Woods members - see your June member email for the code or contact Gazza direct to book on).
