Help out

Wilderness Wood is looked after by its member volunteers. Become a member and come along to:

  • Stewardship Saturdays on the first Saturday of each month - help the home-team look after the wood - we can find a job for anyone

  • Working-With-Wood-Week - an intensive week of woody and cultural projects in the summer holidays - camp over or come in each day

  • Wednesday Volunteering - join Jake for a weekly session helping with projects out in the woods.

  • Friday Club - term-time and holiday opportunities for families to get involved on a more regular basis

We also host volunteers for longer stays from 2 weeks to up to year. These volunteers become part of the home-team - living and working here in exchange for board and lodge. Each year, we aim to host an architect-in-residence; an artist in residence; a craftsperson in residence; a gardener in residence; and people looking for general woodland experience, often through the WWOOF exchange. We are looking for people who are up for contributing their energy and talents in exchange for learning new skills and enjoying life in the wood. The first step is to contact us by email and come along to a Stewardship Saturday (if you are local) so we get to meet you. Applications then go to the core team’s monthly meeting, so we can discuss capacity and timings. Initial stays are almost always for two weeks, with invitations for longer stays as and when we have the space and capacity within the existing home team.
